Multiplique saúde e autoproteção!

O QUE FAZEMOS:

Capacitamos adolescentes para serem multiplicadoras em temas de saúde reprodutiva, gravidez na adolescência, infecções sexualmente transmissíveis (ISTs), além de doenças crônicas não transmissíveis como diabetes, hipertensão e câncer. Melhoramos da qualidade de vida das comunidades por meio do fornecimento de água potável e informando sobre boas práticas de higiene. Promovemos oficinas sobre higiene menstrual e saúde reprodutiva – atualmente, 240 meninas de 15 a 18 anos do Maranhão e do Piauí participam dessas atividades.

O QUE QUEREMOS MUDAR:

Segundo a OMS, mais de um quarto das mortes de crianças com menos de cinco anos são causadas por fatores ambientais como poluição, falta de saneamento e consumo de água imprópria. A falta de acesso à água e saneamento afeta o aprendizado das crianças, além de impactar a higiene menstrual das meninas – estima-se que elas percam cerca de 45 dias de aula por ano por não ter acesso a absorventes e outros produtos.

Where Nineteen-year-old Marelin lives, in Punta Cana, an idyllic holiday destination for foreign visitors where most of the local population lives in poverty, she sees vulnerable girls being exploited for sex by wealthy tourists and locals alike, while in the films and adverts she watches, girls are frequently portrayed as nothing more than sex objects.

“In the Dominican Republic, films and adverts don’t represent real women and girls at all. They often focus on women’s bodies, showing women in revealing clothes, rather than showing their intellect.” Marelin says.

“Girls should be represented as we are – rather than only by actors and models with white skin and perfect bodies – so that we can identify with what we see. I’d also like films and adverts to represent women as more enterprising and determined, strong and powerful.”

Plan International Brazil's Youth Building the Future project connects young people with businesses, government and educational institutions in Pernambuco state. The young people are given access to vocational training courses to learn how to become administrators, receptionists, kitchen assistants and sales workers. At the end of the course, the students will be given help and advice to find themselves a suitable job.

On average, the courses last for four months giving the students a total of 260 training hours. The young people are also offered entrepreneurship classes, coaching and mentoring activities and life skills lessons aimed at providing the students with self-knowledge, increased self-esteem and better interpersonal skills. The project aims to reach 1,600 young people from vulnerable social situation in the metropolitan area of Recife by 2017.
